Gastric sleeve care for Riverside and Corona residents
Riverside and Corona are in Riverside County, south of the county line that separates them from Rancho Cucamonga. To look into a gastric sleeve from either city, you would meet Dr. David G. Davtyan, MD, FACS, FICS, FASMBS, in Rancho Cucamonga, on Red Oak Street. Because you are crossing a county line, it pays to organize visits, coverage and emergency plans ahead of time.
North by the 60 or the 15
From Riverside, the 60 (Pomona Freeway) runs west to Haven Avenue. Go north on Haven to Arrow Route, then a short way east to Red Oak Street.
From Corona, the I-15 runs north into Rancho Cucamonga. One mapped route then uses Milliken Avenue north to Arrow Route, and west to Red Oak Street.
The office is at 8330 Red Oak Street, Suite 201, Rancho Cucamonga. These routes come from OpenStreetMap road data. Traffic varies, so check a map app before you leave and ask which appointment times are open.
Riverside and Corona in figures
The California Department of Finance estimates 321,884 residents in Riverside and 159,309 in Corona as of January 1, 2026. Riverside County as a whole stood at 2,506,824.
CDC PLACES gives modeled crude estimates for adults, based on 2023 data:
| Adults, 2023 | Riverside | Corona | Rancho Cucamonga |
|---|---|---|---|
| Obesity | 36.7% | 35.1% | 30.0% |
| Diagnosed diabetes | 11.2% | 11.1% | 10.5% |
| High blood pressure | 30.2% | 30.3% | 30.8% |
| Depression | 22.7% | 22.0% | 19.3% |
| No health insurance, ages 18 to 64 | 13.6% | 11.1% | 8.8% |
On these estimates, more than a third of adults in both cities have obesity, and more than one in five report depression. Diabetes and high blood pressure are close to Rancho Cucamonga's figures. If depression is part of your own history, tell your care team early. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) lists a psychiatrist or psychologist among the professionals you may meet before surgery, and treatment for depression is worth mentioning at that visit, not hiding.
Riverside County's Medi-Cal plans
The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) lists Riverside County as a Two-Plan model county. Its 2026 table names Molina Healthcare of California, Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) and Kaiser Permanente, along with SCAN Connections, which DHCS describes as a Medicare Advantage special needs plan covering both Medicare and Medi-Cal benefits. IEHP's Medi-Cal page gives its service area as Riverside and San Bernardino counties, so the county line falls inside that one plan's area.
That says nothing about approval. Each plan decides which specialists a member may see and what a sleeve requires. The practice works with PPO and HMO plans that allow care with Dr. Davtyan. For Medi-Cal or Medicare, ask us whether we can see patients on your plan. Background is in IEHP, Medi-Cal and bariatric surgery and insurance requirements for a sleeve.
Organizing a sleeve from farther away
Before surgery
NIDDK describes meeting several professionals before weight-loss surgery: an internist who examines you and orders blood tests, a dietitian, a psychiatrist or psychologist, and the surgeon. Ask at the first call which of these must happen in Rancho Cucamonga and which can be done near home. Bring records and a complete medication list to your first visit. Our page from consultation to surgery lays out the usual order.
The surgery day
The operation is done at a hospital where Dr. Davtyan has surgical privileges. Ask the office which hospital, then plan the route to that address, not to Red Oak Street, and have an adult drive you there and home. See surgery day and the hospital stay.
The first weeks at home
Keep the office number and your discharge instructions where you and your family can find them. NIDDK says you will probably start on a liquid diet and move to soft foods over several weeks, so stock what your instructions call for before the surgery date. Nobody should have to shop in the first days.
Emergencies happen where you live
A long drive is the wrong response to an urgent symptom. In Riverside or Corona, go to a local emergency room or call 911 if you cannot hold down liquids, are vomiting blood, notice black stools, feel severe abdominal or chest pain, run a fever with a fast heart rate or shortness of breath during the first weeks, or find one calf swollen and tender. Give the emergency team your surgery date and your surgeon's name, and have a family member call the office.
Frequently asked questions
Can some pre-surgery tests be done closer to Riverside or Corona?
That depends on the tests and your plan. Blood tests, heart tracings and sleep studies are widely available, and many insurance plans direct members to particular laboratories. Before you book anything, ask the office which tests are needed, whether they can be done near home, and where results should be sent.
How many trips to Rancho Cucamonga should I expect before surgery?
It varies with your health and your insurance plan's requirements, so there is no single number. When you call, ask what to expect in your situation, whether visits can be combined on one day, and whether any can be done by phone or video. Those answers matter more when you live farther away.
Where should I go if I feel unwell the first night home in Corona?
For the emergency signs listed above, do not drive north; use the nearest emergency room or 911. If you are worried and unsure which group your symptoms fall into, treat it as urgent. For mild soreness or questions about your instructions, call the office. Our page on emergency warning signs after a sleeve separates the two groups.
I have Medicare and live in Riverside. Will it cover a sleeve?
Medicare has national rules for bariatric surgery, and Medicare Advantage plans add their own networks and approvals. We do not restate those rules here; our Medicare page summarizes them. Call the number on your card about your coverage, and ask us whether we can see patients on your plan.
